Acclaimed sculptor David Hayes is known for large-scale public artworks made in steel. An MFA graduate of Indiana University, Hayes studied with fellow steel aficionado David Smith and later met and was influenced by Alexander Calder while on a Fulbright Scholarship in France. In 1968, Hayes returned to the U.S. and moved to Connecticut, where he began to develop his signature style, transforming steel into abstract sculptures with curvilinear forms.
His sculptures can be found in numerous outdoor locations in Connecticut and in the collections of over 100 institutions, such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Arts Museum, and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris; among many others.
Burgess Modern + Contemporary is proud to represent David Hayes at Art Miami 2022.
This spotlighted sculpture will be on display in the Burgess Modern + Contemporary booth at the fair.
