Today we remember and celebrate the birthday of French artist Yves Klein.
Klein is considered to be one of the pioneers of contemporary art, whose artistic choices were eccentric, daring and sometimes heavily criticized.
Klein’s chosen media ranged from pure color pigments, to gold leaf, and even live nude models. Above all, Klein is remembered for his creation and use of a single color blue which he patented International Klein Blue.
Klein’s installations, performances, monochromatic paintings, invention of color and living paint brushes laid much of the groundwork for art in the 1960s and ’70s.
Many major museums across the world carry Klein’s iconic work and showcase his artistic abilities that revolutionized the 20th century art scene.
